FARMINGDALE, NY — The Farmingdale Public Library recently installed its Story Walk. The free experience features late American children's author Eric Carle's book, "From Head to Toe."
The Story Walk is next to the path that runs from the book drops towards Merritts Road. No registration is needed, as families can park their car in the lot and walk to the path. The book can be read while following the path.
A library spokesperson said another Story Walk with another book may be done at a later date.
The library worked with the Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary Club and the High School Rotary Interact Club to choose "From Head to Toe" as the inaugural book.
"We chose the book before the passing of Mr. Carle, a prolific writer of children's books," a library representative said. "The Story Walk was designed to get children and families out of the house after the COVID pandemic and return to the library. More importantly, it is a way to get children excited about reading. Since it is outdoors, the children can mimic the animals on the pages, jump around, and scan a QR code to go to a website with more activities."
Carle died on May 23 at the age of 91 due to kidney failure.
