East Islip High School Wins First Baseball Title Since 1991

EAST ISLIP, NY —For the first time since 1991, East Islip High School has a baseball conference title. On Monday, the boys varsity team bested Bethpage High School 14-2 to take the Conference IV title. At the game at Mitchel Field, two brothers played at the same time. Senior John Rizzo Jr. pitched 13 strikeouts in a complete game while his younger brother, sophomore Nick Rizzo hit a triple and five RBIs. The boys' father John Rizzo Sr. was on the 1991 champion team. "We were fortunate to have a great group of talented kids that did everything the coaches asked of them," Sal Ciampi, the coach, said in a statement. "In the end, all the hard work paid off. I have never felt any team was more deserving of winning a championship."
