Description

WESTFIELD, NJ — Although the town of Westfield isn't planning fireworks for Independence Day this year (see link below to find them nearby), you can kick off the holiday by learning a little history. At 10 a.m. on July 4, the Westfield Historical Society will hold 20 to 30 minutes of patriotic readings broadcast from the porch of the Reeve House at 314 Mountain Ave. The public is invited, as are scouts and patriotic organizations. The readings are: The Declaration of Independence (recording by J. F. Kennedy) Original Bill of Rights Lincoln's second inaugural address The plan is to have a flag ceremony and singing of the National Anthem to begin the program. Since 1968, the non-profit Westfield Historical Society has worked to preserve, interpret, and encourage interest in history, Westfield, and its residents through educational efforts and community outreach programs. For further information on the Westfield Historical Society and its activities, or to volunteer, call (908)654-1794 or visit www.westfieldhistoricalsociety.org, Facebook, or Instagram.
