BOULDER COUNTY, CO — If you're among the millions of Americans traveling this 4th of July, you may be in for some sticker shock at the gas pump.
Gas prices are at a seven-year high heading into the holiday weekend, according to a recent AAA report. As of June 23, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.07.
Last year, gas prices hovered around $2.18 per gallon just before the July 4 holiday.

Those who live in the western United States are paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. As of June 22, gas prices were as much as $4.24 in California, $3.67 in Nevada and $3.64 in Washington state.
Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri are enjoying the nation's lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.72 to $2.87 per gallon.
Destinations vary this 4th of July, but AAA says the top five destinations this year are Orlando; Anaheim, California; Denver; Las Vegas and Seattle.
