Description

NORRISTOWN, PA — A stretch of the Schuylkill River Trail will be detoured over the coming months as a $1.5 million construction project to improve accessibility in the area gets underway. PennDOT will begin work on a connector road between Lafayette and Washington streets next Monday, officials announced. The road will give access to Main Street for businesses located on Water Street. The detour is expected to last until October, and the full project should be completed by December. In the meantime, a temporary signed trail will divert bikers, hikers, and runners through the project site. The new connector street will be about 250 feet long, with a curb to curb length of 30 feet. The trail itself will be realigned to cross the connector. In addition drainage upgrades, ADA curb ramps, pavement markings, and a new rain garden will be built. The project is federally funded and is being completed by Worcester-based contractor Allan Myers.
