LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood City Council unanimously approved a resolution voicing support for Medicare for All this week. The resolution asks the federal government to pass the Medical for All Act of 2021, which would provide every American with free health care. "In the wake of the pandemic, it's all the more important to make our voices heard on this," said City Councilperson Tristan Rader, who introduced the resolution. The resolution notes that, if passed, the Medicare for All Act would guarantee all Lakewood residents health care, without copays, deductibles or other out-of-pockets costs. Ultimately, the proposal "would save millions in taxpayer dollars now spent on premiums that provide often inadequate health insurance coverage for government employees," the resolution said. The resolution also says Lakewood residents would enjoy a better quality of life if Medical for All was enacted. As passed, Lakewood's resolution will be sent to President Joe Biden and several legislators, demonstrating the city's support for comprehensive universal health care. "Lakewood City Council urges Congress to enact emergency legislation to provide universal, comprehensive health coverage with zero cost-sharing for patients during this crisis and enthusiastically supports the Medicare for All Act of 2021," the resolution says.
