UPPER WEST SIDE, NY —Longtime Manhattan elected official Gale Brewer has a commanding early lead in the Democratic primary for the City Council District 6 Upper West Side seat, according to NY1.
With 100 percent of the UWS precincts reporting their first-choice votes as of late Tuesday night, Brewer has 53.8 percent of the first-place votes, reports NY1.
Behind her is Maria Danzilo, with 15.1 percent of first-choice votes, and Sara Lind with 13.6 percent, according to NY1.
Tuesday night's results include only the first-choice, in-person votes cast in District 7. Final results will not be known until mid-July, when absentee ballots have been counted and voters' second through fifth choices have been factored into the ranked-choice tabulation.
However, Brewer hit the magic 50 percent first-choice vote marker, which more or less guarantees her as the winner of the District 6 Democratic primary.
Here's the complete distribution for first-choice votes reported by NY1 so far:
Gale Brewer: 17,037Maria Danzilo: 4,777Sara Lind: 4,322Jeffrey Omura: 3,296David Gold: 1,458Zachary Weiner: 798 Before the election, Brewer pointed to her "unique set of experience and skills" to help the Upper West Side emerge from the coronavirus pandemic as a reason to vote for her.
