Description
I’m looking for a new home for two adorable and sweet pet rats. They would come free with their cage (it’s about as tall as me), months’ worth of food, bedding, treats, re-usable wash-able fleece bedding, litter, etc. I’m just looking for a responsible, caring new owner (as I’ll be moving to Oregon). About the rats: Platypus is a male ajouti hooded rat, born 10/8/20. He is the braver and more energetic of the two, and enjoys playing - he’ll communicate that he’s having a good time playing “tag” or “tug of war” with happy lil’ spins. He also likes being held and sitting on your shoulder like a pirate’s parrot. Perry is an ajouti blaze rex dumbo, born 9/15/20. He is the more lazy and cuddly (and adorably chubby) of the two. Like platypus, he enjoys sitting on shoulders (he would contentedly sit on mine throughout hour-long online courses) and being held. He also loves cheek rubs and pets between his ears - he’ll communicate his contentendness with something called bruxxing, which is a rat’s equivalent to purring. About care-taking responsibilities: It’s important to change a rat’s cage frequently, as their respiratory systems are sensitive to the ammonia build-up from their own urine - my rats only use their litter box about the half the time. I change their fleece bedding every other day (although, honestly, every day would be ideal). Rats are also intelligent, social creatures, and it’s important that they get time out of their cage every day. This could take the form of them being held, or sitting on your shoulder - “free range” time is another possibility. If you’re interested, shoot me a message and I’ll answer any questions you have. Anyone interested is also welcome to come over and meet Perry and Platypus, and talk in more detail through their care regimen and personalities - before deciding if these pets would be the right fit for you. Open to either adults or kids being the rats’ primary caregiver! They are intelligent, social creatures and excellent pets for any age. If you have friends that might be interested, feel free to connect us for a conversation. Thanks for reading!
