Description

NYC Rock Band Seeking High-Level Drummer About the band: Formed in 2011, we have been playing shows regularly in the Northeast since 2012. Our music draws on an eclectic mix of styles, with an alt-country influence inviting comparisons to bands like Zac Brown, Lumineers, Sturgill Simpson, and a funk-rock side with comparisons made to RHCP, Dave Matthews Band, and 90s grunge. We have a bourgeoning fan-base in the Northeast that we have been growing for years and we tour regularly in most major cities from Boston to Washington, D.C. We have an extensive live history in NYC in particular, and have headlined venues such as Bowery Ballroom, (le) Poisson Rouge, and Mercury Lounge (which we have twice sold-out). The band has opened for acts including The New Mastersounds and Wild Adriatic. We are currently putting together our fall tour and so far have shows lining up at venues such as Brooklyn Bowl and Mercury Lounge. In addition, we will be releasing our first full-length album this summer, which was crowd-funded through Kickstarter, and from which initial singles have gained nearly a quarter million streams on Spotify. About the position: Our regular drummer has stepped away since the pandemic began and we are seeking a replacement that can play at his high skill level. We are open to most styles of drumming backgrounds/tastes provided the noted expectation of virtuosity, and auditions will mostly focus on how well candidates’ overall artistic and personal vibe fits with the band. While talent and passion are by far our most important concerns, bonus consideration will be given to those able to assist with promotion of shows and ticket sales. Candidates able to draw 30-50 people consistently to NYC shows in particular will be given some priority. Prior to the pandemic, our band rehearsed weekly, and we may seek to revive that schedule. To start, however, candidates should expect a minimum of bi-monthly rehearsals for 3-4 hours per session. The successful candidate will be strongly encouraged (though not required) to contribute to the band’s overall creative process and songwriting. THIS IS NOT A PAID POSITION. As a member of the band, you will receive a portion of whatever money we earn from touring and online sales; in addition, you will not be responsible for travel expenses in the case of touring. However, beyond that, you will not earn money if the band does not earn money. Also, YOU WILL NOT BE PAID FOR REHEARSALS, regular attendance at which is expected. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking for experience and/or exposure at some of the mid-size music theatres in the Northeast. Professional musicians seeking regular payment need not apply. For more information about the band and/or to schedule an audition, please submit a video sample of your drumming to the email address provided (audio-only files accepted but discouraged; amateur/smartphone-quality video perfectly acceptable provided it gives the idea of your abilities). Video should ideally include two songs that demonstrate some range of ability and drumming dynamics. Videos may be of solo work or with accompaniment. Ok to send songs in separate attachments or via Google drive link.
