Learn about water systems with DEC's Summer Program Staff. This interactive hike is fun for the family! This week’s theme is all about water! Join Program Staff on a hike to learn about water systems. Along the way there will be views and opportunities to enjoy and appreciate the way water connects us all! Please register only if you plan on attending. While spaces are limited at each event, there are many events to choose from throughout the summer! This is a family program. Children under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Drop-offs are not allowed. Younger siblings, children who have not attended camp before, or have aged out of camp are all welcome! This hike is rated as easy. WHAT TO WEAR: Face mask that covers the nose and mouthWaterproof, sturdy, and comfortable closed toe shoes or boots Moisture-wicking synthetic fabrics - avoid cotton Layered clothing is recommended even for summer hikes Light-colored clothing, which will make it easier to see ticks A watch or other time-keeping device Trekking poles will reduce leg fatigue and joint pain (optional) WHAT TO BRING: Please bring the items on this list to ensure a safe and comfortable trip.* Any emergency medicine you may need. For example, rescue inhaler or epi-pen*Waterproof/windproof jacket Hat Extra layers/socks Water - at least 2 liters per person (carry more than you think you will need) Snacks/Lunch - choose high protein and high calorie items Sunglasses Sunscreen Hat Bug Repellent and/or Bug Net *Our trip leaders carry first aid kits, ranger radios and other emergency equipment. All staff are trained in Professional Rescuer level CPR and Advanced or Wilderness First Aid and are experienced backcountry hikers. Staff do not carry any medication, please bring your own. For more information about hiking safely: Hike Smart NY Website COVID-19 SAFETY Programs will have a limited number of participantsAll staff and participants must wear masks during programs Exceptions – mask breaks, situations where participants are spread greater than six (6) feet apart Participants will be reminded to maintain 6 feet distance as much as possible Exceptions – families/pods may be closer together We will have hand sanitizer available, but feel free to bring your own. CANCELLATION Weather - this program runs rain or shine, but will be cancelled if there is severe weather. If we have to cancel, participants will receive a text message and email by 7 AM on the morning of the program. Low registration - if registration is low (2 or fewer people), we will cancel at least two days before the program date. We will let participants know via a phone call and email. If you need to cancel - Please cancel your registration so others may register.
