Description
Two day in person training providing an extensive understanding of Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice Conferencing. Restorative Justice Conferencing is an alternative to traditional punitive measures when harm has occurred. It is a voluntary process that focuses on the needs of those impacted, and strives to repair the harm with the accountability and support of the community. Conferencing is used in schools, courts, and communities to lower the rates of suspension, reduce incidents of incarceration, and make amends between community members. Restorative Justice gives voice to those who have been harmed, rebuilds relationships, and equips community members with tools to bring about peace in their neighborhoods. Training participants will learn about the conferencing process, and role play to practice their skills with the support of the training facilitators. This training will be held in person and adhere to NYS COVID-19 protocols. Participants must attend 80% of the training to receive a certificate. Formed in 2013, The Erie County Restorative Justice Coalition is a coming together of people from across our county who believe that conflicts are often best resolved by the people involved. By creating a safe space where all individuals involved in a conflict can come together and discuss what happened, who was harmed, and who bears the responsibility for repairing the harm, ECRJC facilitators are helping to change the way our community addresses conflict and crime. We are an ever-expanding group of individuals who share a desire to improve our community through the use of Restorative Justice in resolving interpersonal conflict and addressing criminal cases. We host regular trainings in Community Conferencing and Talking Circles, and work diligently to get the word out about Restorative Justice and its many uses. We are working to build our presence in Buffalo City Court, Buffalo Family Court, The Buffalo Public Schools, and across the community.
