September 5, 1867, a small herd of longhorns arrived in a small town and forever changed the fortunes of Abilene, Kansas. Join us as we celebrate the creation of the cowboy, the chuckwagon, boots, spurs, and song. See cowboy poets, historic demonstrations, cowboy poetry and much more. The originators. The earliest of western singing groups. 1933, Roy Rogers put together a trio of musicians to bring back the legend of the cowboys with a special brand of music that created a genre, and the Sons of the Pioneers have been doing it ever since.
