From the birth of cage diving to Jaws hysteria, to the dawn of cageless shark diving, Valerie became a trailblazing advocate for the ocean’s most maligned and misunderstood creatures. PERFORMER Mariel Bildsten Quarter Mariel Bildsten is a trombonist, based in New York City. Mariel currently works as a bandleader and side-woman, playing in jazz big bands and small groups, as well as Afro-Latin music, rock, funk, and R&B bands. She is the lead trombonist in Arturo O'Farrill's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra and tours internationally with the rock band Brass Against. She has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, London’s O2 Arena, Birdland Jazz Club, the Apollo Theater, the Chicago Jazz Festival, Perth International Arts Festival, Caramoor Jazz Festival, Smalls Jazz Club, and Smoke Jazz Club, among other venues. Mariel has also performed alongside Dee Dee Bridgewater, Roy Hargrove, Wycliffe Gordon, Brian Lynch, Cyrus Chestnut, Lew Soloff, and Frank Lacy. Her own groups, ranging from duo to septet, have headlined jazz festivals, played around the country, and perform regularly in New York City. Bring your ticket (either printed or on your phone) and our team will check your tickets with a contactless check in scanner, respecting social distancing guidelines. Upon arrival we will do a mandatory temperature check, unless you prefer to provide proof of vaccination. Seating will be arranged in pods (up to 4 people) so that you may sit together with your group, but remain socially distanced from those not in your group. Chairs will be provided in groups of two and four. Masks will be required while inside of the venue and while interacting with staff. This event will be held entirely outdoors. Can I bring food and drinks? No alcoholic beverages are allowed. Feel free to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages! Food and drink must be consumed while you are sitting in your designated area. I’m vaccinated, do I need to wear a mask? All attendees and staff are required to wear a mask while at the event, except while eating or drinking. You will also be reminded of the mandatory safety measures via email and on screen. What COVID-19 Measures Have Been Taken? Our guests and our team’s safety is our primary concern. Our COVID-19 safety measures include social distancing for both guests and staff, regular cleaning of all facilities, and contact-free check-in. All attendees and staff are required to wear a mask while inside of the venue, as it is still required by the city to wear a mask while attending a public event. You will also be reminded of the mandatory safety measures via email and on-screen. You may sit in your pod with up to 4 people, but we ask that you remain socially distanced from anyone not in the group you have chosen to sit with. Where will the screening take place within Brooklyn Army Terminal? Check in will be through the entrance at 80 58th Street, but the screening location will be down at the end of the pier. Please contact us if someone in your party will need assistance getting to the location. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? Rooftop Films are open to all ages.
