Poetic Platforms is a Three-part PopUp Series OACChicago's Poetic Platforms. Play. Create. Connect. Amplify is partnering with Chicago Park District Night Out in the Parks and others to encourage the "everyday designer" to engage in critical community discussions by activating public and private spaces. Together, we help to shape the physical and social character of a shared area around our collective creative potential, reflection, making, cultural, and prototyping activities that allow participants to learn about their personal sense of community and place. Join us this Saturday for play, performances, healing, art & placemaking at: Marquette Park Saturday, 7.31.21 |10:30am- 3pm Black Brown + Breathing is kicking us off for a day of celebration, art, and community healing at Poetic Platforms for Marquette Park. Black Brown + Breathing (BBB) is a space to gather, breathe, cry, pray, and celebrate in community. BBB hosts healing-centered activations at sites of resistance, protest, and collective trauma throughout Chicago. Through these spaces, we come together to reclaim them as our own, to share in one another’s healing, and to spread awareness of ongoing injustices. BBB activations center Black and Brown voices, breath, and celebration. All are invited to help us do so. What we will do: Community dialogue on the historical significance of Marquette Park Meditation & movement Live sound healing Black Brown + Breathing is requesting RSVP for headcount for participants. Register -here Tsukasa Taiko is one of the largest community taiko drumming programs in the Midwest will perform at 1:00pm. Tsukasa Taiko's mission is, through training and performing, to preserve, develop, and pass on the traditional concepts of genuine Japanese art as a cultural legacy, to instill an appreciation for artistic excellence, and to utilize these concepts in expanding and evolving the taiko (Japanese drum) art form. As an active performing group, Tsukasa Taiko presents over ninety shows a year, both locally and internationally. Enjoy our Community Ceramic Workshop with our partner IMAN The Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) is a community organization that fosters health, wellness, and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center. Ariya who is the Ceramic Studio Manager at IMAN runs The Beloved Community Ceramic Studio which is an arts space on IMAN’s campus that hosts a number of free or low-cost ceramics classes and community engagements led by local artists. Our returning partners Latino Policy Forum and Healing Every Youth (HEY) are back to promote peace, healing, and unity in the community. The Latino Policy Forum's Multicultural Leadership Academy (MLA) provides a series of leadership workshops to community, policy, arts, and culture leaders sponsored by organizations committed to social change, policy impact, and community improvement that serve communities of color throughout Illinois. Healing Every Youth (HEY) promotes peace, healing, and unity between Black and Brown communities by creating programming and events that destigmatizes mental health in communities of color. OACChicago encourages inclusion and equity through access to public space. This year's installation Bloom invites us to investigate ourselves, our everyday practices, rhythms, and choreographies within our neighborhoods to create social imagination and memory to enliven cities through the use of community-constructed spatial elements. Welcome to Open Architecture Chicago! Our mission is to work with communities to create sustainable, innovative, and socially responsive design.We’re mobilizing architects, designers, and neighborhood leaders to end injustice in our communities. We use design to reach out and build new relationships. Open Architecture Chicago is part of Open Architecture Collaborative, thttp://www.openarchcollab.org. The Open Architecture Collaborative is a global learning network mobilizing architects and designers with technical skills to build capacity with communities experiencing systemic marginalization.
