Press release from the City of Medford: June 22, 2021 Medford's Home Rule Petition for a local Charter Review Commission will be discussed at a public hearing on Wednesday, June 23rd, Mayor Lungo-Koehn announced today. The State's Joint Committee on Election Laws will discuss the Home Rule Petition as part of the day's session, beginning at 10:00am. The hearing will be held virtually. Anyone wishing to testify can submit written testimony by Friday, June 25th at 3:00pm to [email protected] and [email protected].  You can also sign onto a petition in support of the City's Home Rule Petition by filling out a Google form, here: https://forms.gle/u8tDSRNCRaexiPDd8, that the City will submit this week. Mayor Lungo-Koehn submitted the Home Rule Petition to the State in January, following approval by the Medford City Council. Through the Home Rule Petition, Medford would be authorized to create a 9-member Commission to review and redraft the City's Charter, which sets forth the structure, representation, and responsibilities of Medford's city government.   The Charter has not been substantially reviewed or updated in nearly 40 years.
