Description

COHASSET, MA — Life Scout Eric Hense, 15 came up with an idea to equip first responders with sensory kits that officers can use when assisting those with special needs. Inspired by his older brother who has Autism and special needs, Hense launched a GoFundMe for his Eagle Scout community project. The kits he created include: a weighted pad to provide comfort, noise-cancelling headphones to protect from loud noises and sirens, a white board and marker to help with communication, fidget toys to keep the person's hands busy, and a sturdy "Go" Bag with "Autism Blue" stripe to make it easy to identify in the back of the vehicle. His goal is to provide over 75 sensory kits to the Police and Fire Departments in the surrounding towns of Cohasset, Scituate, Hingham, Hull, Hanover, and Norwell for inclusion in their response vehicles. Hense's GoFundMe has raised $5,000 dollars of his $6,000 dollar goal so far.
