GLEN COVE, NY — A trespassing incident has delayed Glen Cove's plans to reopen the playground at Joe Stanco Park.
A recreation department official told Patch that unknown individuals "stomped around" the newly resurfaced playground before it had completely dried — thus throwing a wrench in the city's reopening timeline.
Assuming no other incidents occur, the official said the playground will reopen on July 1.
In a post on Facebook, the mayor's office urged people to stay away from the playground until it has officially reopened.
"This only delays progress and the opening of this much-loved playground," the post read. "It is imperative that no one enter the playground..."
