NEW HAVEN, CT —In May, two people were hit by a pick-up truck at the intersection near Farren Avenue and Fulton Street, which left both critically injured, police said at the time. The truck left the scene, police said. Tuesday, New Haven police announced an arrest in connection with the crash. Ferri Cotrina-Barrenechea, 25, of New Haven is charged with two counts of first-degree assault with a motor vehicle and one count of evading responsibility in the "hit and run," according to New Haven police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway. On Saturday, May 8 just before 2 a.m., police and first responders arrived on the scene where a "red pick-up truck collided with two pedestrians," police said. The New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response treated and then took two men to Yale New Haven Hospital, where they were then listed in critical but stable condition. A little more than a month later, on June 15, after an extensive investigation, Detective Blaisdell of the New Haven Police Department Major Crimes Unit, was able to secure and execute an arrest warrant for Cotrina-Barrenchea, Shumway said. "The New Haven Police Department would like to acknowledge and thank members of the community for assisting in this investigation," he said.
