Press release from Wheaton Chamber of Commerce: June 21, 2021 Wheaton Chamber, Wheaton Public Library honor Frida Kahlo at Wheaton Plaza del Zócalo   For immediate release [email protected] 630-668-6464   June 21, 2021, Wheaton, IL—The Wheaton Chamber of Commerce joined forces with the Wheaton Public Library to offer the "Wheaton Plaza del Zócalo," scheduled for 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, on the west plaza of the library, 225 N. Cross Street in Wheaton. The event is free and open to the public.   "The DuPage Symphony Orchestra came to us with the wonderful idea of playing music for the community," said Vickie Austin, president/CEO of the Wheaton Chamber. "We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the Frida Kahlo: Timeless Exhibition at the MAC than by co-hosting a Mexican-themed event with our friends from the Wheaton Public Library." The word "Zócalo" means "the public square of a Mexican city or town."   The event will feature a Frida Kahlo-themed Pet Parade sponsored by Two Bostons, the authentic Mexican dancers "Los Chinelos" and Mexican and Latino music by two ensembles of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. The Downtown Wheaton Association, Immigrant Solidarity DuPage, and the City of Wheaton's Community Relations Commission are also participating in the event. The Chamber's Arts & Sports Tourism Committee and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee are supporting the event.   The day's schedule includes: 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.—Welcome and Frida Kahlo-themed Pet Parade, sponsored by Two Bostons 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.—DuPage Symphony Orchestra Woodwind Quintet (Shirley Bodett, flute; Margie Arito, oboe: Deb Zelman, clarinet; Diane Remillard, bassoon; and Gary Green, horn, with percussionist Bill Jastrow) 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.—Los Chinelos Dancers sponsored by Immigrant Solidarity DuPage 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—DuPage Symphony Orchestra Trombone Quartet (Mark Houston, Greg Malovance, Corey Kirkpatrick and Larry Tomko)   The public is invited to come by the library's west plaza to enjoy the celebration, including food, music and dance. A Business Expo will feature local businesses that are members of the Wheaton Chamber and the Downtown Wheaton Association.
