Description

This summer, Bremen High School District 228 is offering a variety of opportunities to its students. These opportunities include free summer enrichment programs and range from Freshman, multimedia, and welding programs to AP boot camps. Recently, the District 228 Summer Enrichment Welding Program wrapped up. The program was a success and filled up almost immediately with interested students from Bremen, Tinley Park, Hillcrest, and Oak Forest High Schools.During the program, students were exposed to various welding techniques including Tig, Mig, and Arc welding. They practiced their skills with a plasma cutter, torch cutter, and grinders and were trained under the direction of District 228 instructors Dan Brown, Roger Young, and Moraine Valley Community College Welding Instructor, David Viar. Brandan Bagnara, an Oak Forest High School senior, is currently interested in exploring mechanical or electrical engineering for his career. When asked why he participated in the Summer Welding Works Camp he replied, " Welding is good to learn for anything you do, it can be used in many jobs. This will even help me when I am working with my dad on our car at home. It is really a great skill to have." District 228 students who are interested in learning welding skills are encouraged to register for courses in the Industrial Technology Department or join Welding Works V, an afterschool welding exploration club. Welding Works V is held one afternoon a week at Oak Forest High School Metal Shop and begins in September. For more information on Welding Works V, students should contact Dan Brown at [email protected] or Renee Mack at [email protected].
