Valley Forge Park Visitor Center Partially Reopening

VALLEY FORGE, PA — Valley Forge National Historic Park is beginning a phased reopening of its Visitor Center as a $12 million rehabilitation project nears completion. The renovations, which began in the late fall of 2018, will continue while some services are offered to start the summer. "We are doing a phased opening so we could offer some amenities to our visitors, despite not being fully operational," Superintendent Rose Fennell said in a statement. "The welcome mat will remain out for visitors to return again later when the new exhibits are installed and the theater is open." The building had not been completely overhauled since its opening in 1976. Improvements include accessibility options, upgraded security and fire protection, improved storage for historic collections, a new HVAC system, new windows, flooring, and carpeting, and numerous energy efficiency improvements. The center, which includes The Encampment Store, the regional travel desk, and restrooms, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays through Mondays. The second phase of the opening, which is slated for some time this fall, will include the unveiling of the new theater building, as well as new interpretative and museum exhibits.
