BURNSVILLE, MN — Independent School District 191 officially adopted a budget for the 2021-22 school year. The budget was officially adopted at the school board's Thursday meeting, the district said. The budget will use about $3.9 million in federal and state pandemic relief funds, which will help keep programs and services, and keep class sizes small, the district said. $3.3 million of the funds will be used primarily in three categories: Enhancing academic supportProviding health and safety measuresBuilding connections with familiesThe district said it will also receive $16.1 million in pandemic relief funds as part of the American Rescue Plan. These funds must be used by the end of the 2023-24 school year, according to the district. A plan is still being developed as to how these funds will be allocated, the district said. "The relief funding we're receiving is significant and essential, but it's temporary," Battle said regarding the American Rescue Plan funds. "It reflects that these needs will be there for the next few years at least, but we know we have to be thoughtful about how we use it."
