Homicide Probe Underway After Shooting In East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — A shooting in east Charlotte before dawn Sunday that left two people injured is now considered a homicide after one of the victims died hours later at an area hospital, according to Charlotte police. According to a report by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident occurred in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive shortly before 2 a.m. June 20. Officers responded to the neighborhood after receiving an emergency call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon, and located two victims who had been shot. Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment. One of the victims had life-threatening injuries, and around 5 a.m. was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. CMPD did not immediately identify the victim, pending family notification.
