COBB COUNTY, GA — The COVID-19 mass vaccination site at Jim Miller Park is officially closed, county officials announced Friday. Cobb and Douglas Public Health turned the park into a COVID-19 testing site and mass vaccination site for the last 16 months, but it closed Friday. The park can now go back to being just a park and event center— but with a new plaque honoring the service the center provided during the pandemic. Hundreds of people gathered at the site Friday to commemorate the final vaccine administered there, according to a news release from the county. Tears were shed as health care workers mingled with other groups involved in the effort that keep Cobb County as safe as possible amid the pandemic, county officials said. The public health department administered a total of 71,000 vaccines at the site, a spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
