COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County Police Department officer who was shot as point-blank range during a domestic dispute call last weekend is now home and recovering, CCPD officials said. The shooting, which happened last Sunday around 4 p.m. on North Shores Road in Acworth, led to a three-hour manhunt for the suspect: Luis Rey Ruiz, 20, of Kennesaw. Police and Cobb County SWAT found him in the same neighborhood where they say he shot the arriving officer, and around 7:30 p.m. SWAT team members shot and killed him, Patch previously reported. Delk said this likely saved his life. The officer's name has not been released, but police said he is "home with his family and doing well," according to a department Facebook post. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into both incidents, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings. Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's office for review.
