Description
Hey guys, my names Mack. I’m a guitarist here in Austin and I’m looking for a young singer for an exciting new band I’m putting together. The vision I have for this group is one of dynamics. Light and shade as it were, it can be heavy as thunder one moment and quite as a whisper the next. I want it to be a modern blues band, but much much more, drawing from multiple styles of music like Led Zeppelin did. Folk, Funk, classic blues/50s rock n roll, soul, reggae, and even more modern music like rap, hip hop/rnb, and modern rock music like Foo Fighters, Cage the elephant, White Stripes, Black Keys, and Tame Impala. In fact for the sound, think of Tame Impala but more heavy, bluesy, and Zeppelin like. I don’t want it to be like other heavy bands, as I said I want dynamics. I want it to be heavy but also have a funky/jazzy rhythm section to it with swing and groove. I’ve already got a drummer, and am also looking for a bassist/keyboardist, I’ve got a few lined up who can possibly be in the band. The drummer: Erick Liner, has experience in the studio. He has a band called The Chicken Boys where he plays all the instruments, his album “Taking Flight” is on Apple Music, YouTube and Spotify if you guys want to check it out. For the singer, I’m Looking for someone whose between the ages of 18-27, nothing against older cats but I want everyone in the band to be around the same age. I don’t care about gender or sexual orientation. I need someone who has a vast knowledge of music, especially of the blues greats, and Rock N Roll from the 50s and psychedelic blues music from the 60s. Yes, think Robert Plant. But not just the high powered vocals everyone thinks of, I need the soulful mid and lower register as well, he was very influenced by many soul singers like Sam Cooke and Garnett Mimms. So I don’t want just a stereotypical rock singer, I need someone with a soulful voice with very versatile range. Also if you can rock harmonica or are at least willing to learn, that’s a plus because there’s some songs I want us to perform that have a harmonica solo. We will perform originals (I’ve got four I’m writing at the moment and a demo of one recorded I’ll have in this post) and some covers that Led Zeppelin performed on their first tours: Train Kept a Rollin by the Yardbirds (originally by Tiny Bradshaw, also not the Aerosmith version), For your love by the Yardbirds, and As long as I have you by Garnett mimms. We’ll perform some songs off their first album as well like You shook me, I can’t quit you babe, and perhaps How Many More Times. Live, this is somewhat of a jam band. Not meaning we’ll stretch songs to be 30 minutes, especially not just starting out (but maybe eventually down the line ;)). But definitely we’ll have some songs live that could be 10 or 15 minutes, there’ll be improvisation involved and I’m really intrigued by the possibility of having live medleys, like what Zeppelin did with How Many more times where they would perform boogie chillin and bottle up n go by John Lee hooker in the middle. We could do something similar with some of my songs which are very jam friendly. If this group is something you’d be interested in text me at . I have Instagram @mackmitchellguitar.
