Description

compensation: Eligible participants will receive up to $65 for a completed session. We are developing a web-based smoking cessation treatment for low-income Veterans who smoke cigarettes. If you decide to participate in this study, you will be randomly assigned to 1 of the 2 web-based smoking cessation treatments. This process is like flipping a coin. The programs will send you 2-4 text messages and/or emails daily. The amount of time you use this program and what parts of the program you use is up to you. You will do this at home. During the study, you will participate in 3 study visits by telephone: Visit 1: ~ 30 minutes; involves answering survey questions about your smoking habits and smoking history. You will receive a $25 gift card at the study visit's completion. Visit 2: We will call you after 1 month, and ask you similar, but fewer survey questions. This will take ~ 15 minutes. You will receive a $15 gift card at the study visit's completion. Visit 3: ~ 30 minutes; Occurs after 3 months & involves answering survey questions about your smoking habits, your opinion of the treatment and taking a saliva cotinine test. You will receive a $25 gift card at the study visit's completion. You must have access to the internet using a computer, laptop or smartphone to participate. All participants must be US Veterans. There are NO in-person visits required. You will be briefly screened by phone to determine eligibility. If you qualify, you will be asked to log onto the smoking cessation website immediately following the of the Visit 1 survey. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
