Looking for a dog

My son and I are looking for a friendly dog or pup to add to our family and love and take care of. We really want a dog. No preference on gender or breed. I recently tried to get a puppy and got scammed out of a couple thousand dollars. So looking for free if possible otherwise can pay a small fee. I've had dogs and cats my whole life so I know how to care for animals. We own our home so there's no landlord to worry about. I can get shots and vet care if needed and doesn't have to be fixed.
