Ironwood is currently hiring for several positions - both FT and PT. * FT Animal Care Technician - 7A - 3P (must be available 1 weekend day) * FT Towels - 10A - 6P (must be available 1 weekend day) * PT Watering - 7:30 - 1:30P (must be available 1 weekend day) The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is a premier pot-bellied pig sanctuary in a rural area of Pinal County in Marana, AZ. We are one of the few pig sanctuaries in the state of AZ and by some experts, we are the largest pot-bellied pig sanctuary in the United States, currently housing over 650 pigs and regularly taking in over 85 pigs a year. We take in unwanted and abused pigs primarily from Arizona, with a few from surrounding states. We have rescued well over 2,000 pigs in the 20 years of our existence. The Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) and is accredited by the American Sanctuary Association. We offer temporary and long-term employment, medical, dental and vision insurance by 90 days for FT employees, and 40 hours of accrued paid sick/vacation time each year. We are in a remote area northwest of Tucson so only those living in northwest Tucson, Red Rock, Marana, Avra Valley, Catalina, Eloy, Casa Grande, or Florence areas are close enough for a reasonable drive to the sanctuary. We are less than 1 hour's drive from all the above areas. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: ANIMAL CARE: Primary care for 650 potbelly pigs at the sanctuary. Tasks include, feeding, administering medications (both AM/PM), delivering hay, juice/fruits, supervision for overall health and wellness and misc tasks around the sanctuary as needed. TOWELS: We have over 650 pot-bellied pigs including 125 seniors needing extra care and pigs that don't thrive in the hotter temperatures of the desert. Tasks include providing hands-on care for the geriatric and special needs pigs, by placing cool towels over their backs/necks and helping them to stay cooler. WATERING: In the hot summer months, pigs need lots of fresh water for drinking and wallowing. Tasks include, cleaning out and filling water bowls, auto waterers, pools and wallows, misc. task around the sanctuary. REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS FOR QUALIFIED CANDIDATE: * You must have your own reliable vehicle to get to work. * You must be punctual and reliable and rarely miss work. * You must be a fast learner and work well with others. * Must be able to work 4 - 5 days a week/8 hours a day in any temperature or weather condition. * Must be able to work weekends and holidays. * Must be able to endure standing and squatting consistently, as this position requires it. * Must be willing to work directly with pigs and feel comfortable with them. * Must be willing to work 8 hour shifts for FT and 6.5 -7 hour shifts for PT. Shift includes a 30 minute paid lunch break and a 15 minute paid break. * No experience necessary, we will train the right person. Please answer ALL prescreening questions when applying. Take note of the following: * The sanctuary is in a very remote area of Marana and is not close to most areas in Tucson. Please map the sanctuary location to see if this is a manageable commute roundtrip 4-5 days per week. * The sanctuary is not on a bus route or any public transportation route. Reliable transportation is a must. * These positions will require you to work outside, the desert heat in the summer can be very difficult for people to manage. Please take this into serious consideration before applying - temps are currently over 110 degrees and likely to stay over 100 for the next several months. * The shifts listed for each position are non-negotiable and do not have flexibility. One weekend day is required and possibly holidays. * We are a drug-free work place and have a zero tolerance policy for drug use. * These are physically demanding positions (especially in the summer heat) - the sanctuary sits over 20 acres, you will do a considerable amount of walking, bending and possibly lifting.
