This 5 day training seminar consists of lectures and training leading attendees through the use of ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 & Section IX. Note: Code Books are NOT Provided. Please bring a copy as they are very helpful in the learning process Section VIII, Div. 1 (July 26-28)The first 3 days of this training seminar consists of lectures and training leading attendees through the use of Section VIII, Div. 1 The instructor will show in the Code, where answers to questions can be found - both common and uncommon. • ASME history and general policies • Design, Including cylindrical components under internal and external pressure, head calculations, and reinforcement of openings • Materials, A general overview of Code requirements and details on calculating Minimum Design Metal Temperatures • Fabrication, A general overview and discussion of Section VIII, Div. 1 fabrication and welding requirements • Heat Treatment, Detailed discussion of Section VIII, Div.1 PWHT requirements focusing on Low Alloy, High Alloy Carbon Steels • NDE per Section VIII, Div. 1, Brief discussion of the requirements of Section VIII, Div.1 including RT, UT, MT and PT • Pressure Testing, Stamping and Data Reports, Calculation of test pressures, gauge range determination, stamping requirements and discussion of the Code required Data Reports In training sessions attendees will use their Code Books with instructor guidance to answer questions relating to the Code. These questions will include design, materials, fabrication, pressure testing, stamping and documentation. The questions are asked at random and attendees will use Section VIII, Div. 1, in depth. Training sessions are standalone for attendees who want to reinforce their knowledge of Section VIII, Div. 1. Section IX (July 29-30)This portion fills the last two days of training provides instruction on the organization and use of Section IX. Included in the seminar is the development and review of a WPS, a PQR and a WPQ. General • The Purpose of Section IX • The Organization of Section IX • Responsibilities • Processes Welding Procedures • Definition of Terms (i.e., WPS, PQR, Etc.) • Explanation of essential, non-essential and supplementary essential variables • How to write and review a welding procedure using Section IX • Limits of Section IX • Revisions to documents • Qualifying a Welding Procedure including required testing • Use of Important tables from Section IX • General Variables Performance Qualifications (Welders) • Responsibilities • Performance Variables • Record Requirements • Mechanical and Radiographic Testing • Acceptance Criteria
