Description
Down Under Directional Boring provides a complete variety of utility construction and engineering services to the wireless and wireline industry. We are seeking underground utility construction crew members (laborers) to work out of our North Charleston office. Prior experience with installation/repair/maintenance in the underground utilities industry preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred; CDL a plus. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of the utility construction industry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Load/unload, deliver, install, and remove various equipment, construction materials, and supplies needed for daily work • Locate buried wiring/cabling • Hand dig with shovels, picks, digging bars, and/or mechanical tools to expose located utilities • Access underground vaults and pedestals • Install conduit and/or telecommunication cabling in trenches • Splice conduits sections (install couplers) as directed • Place anchors, pedestal, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks • Operate tamps, jackhammers, core drills, concrete saws, and other miscellaneous equipment safely • Restore worksite after construction, i.e., refill trenches and holes, tamp soil, replant plants or shrubs disturbed during construction • Work in congested and remote areas • Perform flagging duties (place traffic cones and signs; direct safe coordination of vehicles and equipment within general public areas where worksites are active) • Perform physical tasks for the entire assigned work shift (i.e., use hand tools, lift materials on average up to 50 lbs, etc.) under direction of Supervisor • Place temporary asphalt on streets where excavations have been performed • If appropriately licensed and authorized, drive or operate construction equipment used on the jobsite to complete daily work assignments • Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use • As required, work in adverse temperatures and climates • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies • Follow directions and produce quality work • Maintain positive working relationships within the company and with external contacts • Assist supervisor with all other duties assigned consistent with job description Requirements: • High School diploma or GED required • Previous experience and knowledge of underground utility construction • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record • Satisfactory pre-employment drug screen and background check results
