North Kingstown Town Council Returns To In-Person Meetings

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The North Kingstown Town Council held an in-person meeting Monday night for the first time since March 16, 2020, reported The Independent. The meeting, which lasted for over three hours, took place at the Beechwood Senior Center and had both council members and residents in attendance. Monday's agenda included discussing building needs, making appointments and reappointments to several town boards, and recognizing the work of the town clerk. Topics that came up regarding the town's building needs included what to do with the old Town Hall at 80 Boston Neck Road when it reopens, whether to create a recreation center and a new public safety complex for the North Kingstown Police and Fire Departments, and the the school department's desire to replace the Wickford Middle School. The council also filled numerous positions on multiple boards including Asset Management, Audit Committee, Building Code Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Groundwater Committee, Historic District Commission, Information Technology Advisory Committee, Leisure Services Advisory Committee, and Planning Commission. At the end of the meeting, Town Clerk Jeannette Alyward was honored for her decades of work with the town with an official citation from the Town Council. Members officially declared June 14, 2021 to be Jeannette Alyward Day in North Kingstown. The next North Kingstown Town Council Meeting will take place June 28 at 7 p.m.
