Concord Firefighters Honored For Emergency Services

CONCORD, NH — Two sets of Concord firefighters received accolades from Concord Hospital on Monday for recent medical events. Craig Clough, the emergency services director at the hospital, presented stork and code save pins to Firefighters David Currier, Phil Tirrell, Zach Gagnon, and Firefighter Paramedic Justin Kantar for successfully delivering a baby girl in the field. The girl, who was the second baby delivered in the field in Concord during the past month, was 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and 20.8 inches long. It was the first time Tirrell had delivered a baby in the field in more than 25 years of service to the Concord community. "When we deal with so much tragedy, it is uplifting to be involved with these types of incidents," he said. The crew at the Heights Fire Station was also awarded for assisting the Tri-Town EMS with a cardiac arrest patient while being taken to the hospital. EMTs from both orgs performed advanced life support — including "rapid sequence intubation and pharmacological interventions," to successfully revive the patient, Concord Fire Chief Sean Brown said. The treatment led to what is known as a "door-to-balloon time of 30 minutes," he added, the time the patient arrived at the hospital to when they received cardiac catheterization.
