Description
Join us for a ride celebrating several amazing women who have improved DC and the US through their incredible work and talent. This year we celebrate the 101st Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment and the DC Cycling Concierge is teaming up with author Andrea Seiger for a fun and fascinating ride to explore our city’s and nation’s herstory. DC was one of the primary battlegrounds for the women’s suffrage movement, and amazing sites and stories abound. In addition, there are countless incredible women – artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, activists and politicians – who have left their mark on the city and country. Join “111 Places in Washington That You Must Not Miss” guidebook author and tour guide Andrea Seiger and Jeff Miller, the DC Cycling Concierge, on another in the series of Conte's Community Bike Rides. This 8-mile ride from the Conte's Bike Shop at 1412 Q Street to check out numerous sites you may not have ever noticed but will now. Come learn and explore some of DC’s rich herstory, from Mary McCloud Bethune to Clara Barton, from brothels to temperance, from our beloved cherry trees to rulings at the Supreme Court. All people and all types of bikes welcome! If you have a choice of bikes, bring your more comfortable ride with regular pedals (clipless pedals may not be as fun given all the stops and sites we'll be checking out). The ride will be capped at 20 people max, so RSVP today! I love cycling and I love DC and I love to show my guests how biking is the best way to see and explore the history and sites. The themes of my tours are a way to see this great city and region in a slightly different way, to delve deeper, and to have some great discussions of how our history relates to today. I love leading these tours by bike because we can see so much more than you can in any other type of tour. Yes, biking is the best way to explore DC, but I also revel in the fun of sharing the history and wild back stories to many of the sites I share with my guests. I hope to see you on this ride!
