Experience Level: Beginner Registration Deadline: Friday, August 6 Learn how to use gutta resist to draw a pattern (any pattern you like) on a scarf, then use silk dyes to paint in the colors. This is a basic beginner class. This technique is easy and fun, and no previous silk painting experience is necessary. Basic information will be discussed. You will will learn an uncomplicated way to use these dyes. The painted scarves will need to be steamed, so you will be provided with instructions to steam them on your own or I will bring the scarves home with me to be steamed. If I take your scarf home, the steamed, washed, and ironed scarf will be returned in no more than three weeks by mail. Each student will dye/paint one (1) 8mm, 8" x 54" habotai silk scarf. Instructor will supply: One (1) scarf per personDyesGutta resistPatterns for inspiration and/or tracingHandout on the technique used in classSteaming of scarves and their returnStudent will supply: One roll of paper towelsOne hand-held hair dryerOne old towel (one you wouldn't mind getting stained)Wear old clothes!Snacks/beverages as there will be no lunch break.Current Guild policies require that unvaccinated participants wear a mask any time they are at the house. Those vaccinated against COVID-19 may go unmasked. Teachers may request all participants wear a mask. COVID-19 policies may change according to the guidelines of the CDC and the State of Ohio. Your fee will be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason. The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana. Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses. After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.
