Description
Per the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, Black Rat Snakes (a dark subspecies of Pantherophis alleghaniensis) are illegal to capture, possess, or trade in Massachusetts without a special permit generally available only to zoos. One of the reasons they have become so rare is people capturing them to sell as pets. People who care about the future of this species in the Commonwealth won't further endanger them by dealing in this illicit commerce.
