SF Police Officer Injured, 20 People Rescued In Tenderloin Fire

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A San Francisco police officer was injured Saturday morning in the Tenderloin while assisting in the evacuation of residents and pets from a fire at a six story building. More than 20 people were rescued, 15 were injured and 60 were displaced, the San Francisco Fire Department tweeted. Heavy smoke was billowing from the fire, which was reported on the 400 block of Leavenworth Street Saturday morning. Firefighters had the blaze under control by the early afternoon, but officials remained in the area amid an ongoing investigation. A police officer sustained non-life threatening injuries while assisting firefighters in the effort, the San Francisco Police Department said. San Francisco Animal Care was also on scene to reunite animals with their owners and take custody of displaced pets. "The fire has now been contained - huge shoutout to all agencies involved!" San Francisco police officers tweeted.
