DARIEN, IL — Darien saw three new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had a total of 1,766 coronavirus cases, a 0.2 percent increase from the week before. The previous week, the city experienced one new case. The city's number of coronavirus deaths increased by one in the last week, to 22. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, Darien had 81.7 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 88.2 in La Grange Park, 91.7 in DuPage County, 93.6 in Hinsdale, 94.3 in Elmhurst, 98.9 in Western Springs, 100 in Clarendon Hills, 102.1 in suburban Cook County, 104.4 in Burr Ridge and 120.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,388,688, up 0.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,133. Nationally, 33.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 0.2 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 598,713 people have died from the virus in the United States.
