WHERE IS THE A/C FILTER?

My A/C is icing up and restricting air flow and one of the most obvious reasons I've been told is a dirty A/C filter. I'd like to check the filter and change it out but first I must find it. As you can see from the attached pictures whoever installed this unit sealed everything with some sort of sealing compound. Before I start breaking seals I'd like to know exactly where the filter should be. Any help would be appreciated.
