Coach Bob Peters passed away, at age 80, in February in his home in Atlanta, Georgia after a valiant battle with cancer. Throughout his career, and in his personal life, he touched so many people – friends, family, colleagues, students, athletes, and many others in the Palo Alto community. He was an incredible coach, teacher, and mentor; and a “dad” not only to his family, but to many aspiring young athletes, having coached varsity football, track, and wrestling for 35 years combined at both Cubberley (1964-1979) and Gunn (1979-1999) High Schools. Nicknamed “Black Swan,” he was also an accomplished pianist, community activist, and organized many fundraisers for social causes. One of his most important causes was CMRI (Children's Medical Relief International) which he spearheaded in 1973 to help with medical supplies for child victims of the Vietnam War. He was the inspiration for the movie "Wait Till Your Mother Gets Home" (a 1983 American made-for-television comedy film based on a true story about role reversal between husband and wife, starring Paul Michael Glaser and Dee Wallace). He has done so much for others it is now time for us to do something in his name. Our gathering hosted by "Coach Del" Hans Delannoy will start with Reception & Dinner at 5 PM and then the special Memorial Tribute and Program at 7 PM. If you can join us, RSVP by July 15th, so we can plan accordingly. We are requesting a suggested donation of $45 per person (but, absolutely no one shall be turned away; and any special needs, please don't hesitate to ask). If you have any questions or if you are able to provide any help and talent with our event, we would love to hear from you. Your support or whatever you can give will help perpetuate the Legacy of Coach Bob Peters. We are currently looking at the possibility of replacing the display case at the district office that holds Cubberley memorabilia and dedicating that case in the name of Coach Peters. The Cubberley memorabilia would be moved to the new display case. Donations would also go to the Gunn Foundation scholarship program to help students with the cost of college.
