African Heritage Tour of God's Little Acre The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society is offering tours of God’s Little Acre, the oldest and largest cemetery for enslaved and free Africans. The tour focuses on the Creative Survival of the African Heritage people of Newport; their journey from enslavement to freedom and how they created a life for themselves and prospered over a two hundred fifty-year period. Tours will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays, from June July 27th to August 15th(some exclusions). Tickets are $15/Adults (over 21), $10/Students (13-21), and free under 13. Groups of 10 or more - contact [email protected] for discount pricing. *Note: Parking in the Burying Ground is limited. If possible, park at the Gateway Center - it is a 2 block walk. Limited street parking. Preserving Our History, Ensuring Our FutureAs one of the oldest African Heritage organizations in the country, the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society has recorded, retained and interpreted these historical facts and preserved the documents and artifacts of African-American and African descendant’s history and accomplishments in Rhode Island. Our primary mission is the preservation of African Diaspora descendant’s historical artifacts – books, art, papers and images, as well as facilitating the interpretation efforts by those seeking to enlighten others about our heritage.
