Katie Haverly 'Matter' Album Release ALL AGES A celebration of local songstress Katie Haverly's “Matter”, the album release lost to Covid. Katie Haverlywith Alasanne Club Congress Saturday, August 28th $10 Katie Haverly Tucson, Arizona-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Katie Haverly has spent over twenty years honing her unique cocktail of folk and jazz-tinged pop. In the process she has risen to become “one of the city’s most deeply disciplined and widely beloved singer-songwriters,” says local community radio station KXCI (91.3 FM). While “adroitly navigating rock, pop and folk genres,” per Zocalo Magazine, the multi-instrumentalist has earned comparisons to confessional singer-songwriters Joni Mitchell, Fiona Apple and Laura Marling as well as outlier visionaries David Crosby, Erykah Badu, Judee Sill and tUnE-yArDs. Her discography spans eight full-length albums: Face Down (1999), The City (2003), Around The Bend (2008), The Leap Year (2012) and Fault Line (2013) - both under band name Copper and Congress, Aviary (2015), Pluto (2018), and, most recently, Matter (2020). Self-described as a “jazzy mystic,” Haverly says her writing process is closely tied to the spiritual realm, and has become one of receiving energy from and living in communion with the beyond. Haverly recently released a new single, “Get Ready”, which she recorded with producer Steven Lee Tracy (The Myriad) at Saint Cecilia Studios. A new record will follow later this year. She penned the track at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Locally Haverly has risen to the top of the live music scene statewide, with past gigs on tours supporting Macy Gray, Chris Isaak and Loudon Wainwright at venues including Tucson’s 191 Toole and Fox Theatre and Chandler Center for the Arts in Phoenix. Elsewhere she has performed for a TEDxTucson and numerous sessions at KXCI and Arizona Arts Live! Growing up, Haverly was drawn to the stage and was in many show choirs and musicals before she wrote her first song at 17 after her father showed her a few chords on the guitar. "I always wanted to be a drummer. Rhythm is what writes my songs." Haverly has discovered an aptitude for building time machines. Time machines that travel back and forth between late 60's Laurel Canyon and our chaotic and modern musical world. Living in Tucson, which is nestled between four mountain ranges and amid the Sonoran desert, Haverly’s music has come to reflect the arid surroundings, the warm collaborative spirit amongst its artists and a rich culture of musical innovation. "The love and acceptance I have experienced in this community has forever changed my cellular structure, my heart,” she says. Alassane Alassane is a musician/songwriter/artist who’s recently moved here to Tucson. His music incorporates a wide array of influences. Last year he released a debut ep entitled ‘yield’ and is currently in the process of finishing another EP. He’s also just finished and released a collaboration with Rachel Eckroth and Tim Lefebvre, which is also available to listen to on all platforms.
