Pre-season workshop for returning AMC choristers to meet our new music director Scott Youngs Welcome back to singing with AMC! This is the first of two pre-season workshops for AMC singers to meet our new music director, Scott Youngs, and begin preparation for the 2021-22 season. The second workshop on July 24 is open to the public and all prospective members of AMC. Choristers will work on healthy vocal production, vowel shape, intonation, timbre, breath control and support, and diction. In the process, singers will learn Scott’s expectations for the Chorale and more about their own strengths and areas that might need improvement. Sign-in begins at 8:30 AM, workshop downbeat at 9:00. Eat a high-protein breakfast, we have a lot of ground to cover! The workshop is free of charge. AMC Policy requires proof of full COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination before participation. See details on the AMC Website. Workshop Clinicians Scott Youngs is the founder and the Artistic Director of the Arizona Bach Festival, as well as the American Bach series from which it grew. For 30 years he was the Director of Music for All Saints’ Episcopal Church. As organist and pianist, he has both taught and performed throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. As a conductor, he has toured with his choirs extensively, recorded a dozen CDs, and conducted at Carnegie Hall. Joining Scott is his long-time collaborator and friend, Grace Johnson, DMA. As a teacher, her primary goal is to help her students acquire and maintain a technique that supports the health and beauty of their voices. She enjoys working with both beginner and advanced students and has over 30 years of teaching experience, including K-12 general/choral music and college-level Applied Voice. A mezzo-soprano, she specializes in the Oratorio and Art Song repertoire.
