PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill renaming roads in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in honor of law enforcement officials who died in the line of duty. In Pinellas County, a portion of County Road 611 between Forelock and Keystone roads has been named for Deputy Michael J. Magli. In Hillsborough County, a portion of State Road 60 between I-75 and Phillip Lee Boulevard has been named for Sgt. Brian Lavigne. Also in Hillsborough County, I-275 between East Sligh Avenue and East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard has been named for Officer Jesse Madsen. Magli died in 2018 after being struck by a driver accused of attempting to evade sheriff's deputies. Lavigne was hit and killed by a car driven by a suspect in a crash in January in Brandon. Madsen was killed in March when he veered his police cruiser into the path of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 75 to prevent the wrong-way driver from crashing into other cars on the highway.
