MILWAUKEE, WI — The local Girl Scouts organization reported that it sold a higher average of packages per girl this year in Wisconsin than last year. The Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast reported that it sold an average of 196 packages per girl this season, compared with 155.5 average packages per girl in 2020. A Girl Scouts representative said 100 cases remained and were donated to food pantries, homeless shelters and a few fire departments across southeastern Wisconsin. There's still a surplus of cookies nationwide, which contrasts with the high sales in Wisconsin. Still, there are ways to donate unsold cookies before they expire. The Girl Scouts have opened a donation website to support a cookie program and donate cookies to first responders and food bands. The organization said that it innovated selling methods by setting up "virtual cookie booths" when Scouts couldn't sell inside of grocery stores during the coronavirus pandemic. It added that the virtual booths posted a link to take orders and get payment online a week before, then letting customers pick up via drive-thru at a scheduled time. A Girl Scouts representative expressed confidence that this method will grow in the future.
