Professional steel band looking 4 additional members (Lexington/Columbia/Irmo/Chapin/Gilbert/Blythewood) Well-established, professional steel band is looking for additional members for part time, PAID work. We have more work than we can accept and we don't want to turn down the gigs that come our way. The band currently has 8 members and we perform in multiple combinations as a duo, trio and quartet for weddings, corporate events, tourist attractions, and festivals throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. We are looking for: 1. percussionist capable of performing multiple auxiliary percussion instruments at the same time (for example, shaker with one hand and conga drum with the other, tambourine with one hand and timbales with the other, etc.) AND/OR 2. individuals who have performed steel drums in high school and/or a college ensemble We do not currently need set players, but it is possible someone with drum set skills could easily be trained for our "Caribbean percussion" spot. You do not need to own a steel drum, conga drums, timbales, or auxiliary percussion; however, having your own equipment is a plus. Experience with soca, calypso and reggae is a plus, but not required. Individual needs to be: *Clean-cut and "family-friendly" in appearance with the ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test *Personable with a professional attitude *Owns reliable transportation *Available to perform at least 2 week nights and one weekend a month *Ability to practice a musical instrument (softly) where you live *Physically able to load and set up instruments 40+ lbs. We are an extremely well-established band with 25+ years in the business. Individuals applying will need to be excellent at accepting musical direction no matter how many years you've been in the business.
