I have polycystic kidney disease and my kidneys have begun to fail. At my age I am not eligible for a transplant from a deceased donor. The cysts in my kidneys will continue to grow and put pressure on my system – even on dialysis – which means that dialysis is inadequate in my case. After the age of 60 Mayo Clinic states that the average person on dialysis will die within four years. The best chance at a normal quality and length of life for me is a preemptive transplant from a living donor. I am working with UCLA as they offer a premier transplant program.
