Description
Learn about Madison's proposed new Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program. Give input to city staff. Please join Smart Growth for our next Knowledge & Networking event, where we will learn about a proposal for a new Traffic Demand Management (TDM) program. The presenter will be Madison Transportation Director Tom Lynch. This is your opportunity to ask questions and give city staff feedback about the ordinance while it still is in draft form--before it is formally introduced. Plus this information will be invaluable to you and your clients. This program is presented by Smart Growth Greater Madison's Public Policy Committee. Members of Smart Growth, Downtown Madison, Inc. and the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend. This program is FREE, but we ask that you register in advance for planning purposes. The proposed TDM program would replace the current TDM requirements, which are not well defined. Under the new TDM program, a table or tables would determine how many TDM points the TDM plan for a development project is required to include, based on the land use, the number of dwelling units or square feet of floor space, and the parking ratio. The ordinance also would contain a menu of TDM measures with points associated with each, and developers would pick and choose menu items to put into a TDM plan that produces the required number of TDM points. The TDM plan would be reviewed at the staff level; it would not be submitted to the Plan Commission, Transportation Commission, or Common Council for approval. Under the new TDM program, it would be much easier for development projects in the interior of the city to achieve TDM points and much harder for development projects near the edge of the city to achieve TDM points. For example, projects would receive TDM points for being in a location with a high walkability score or near a transit route. After the conclusion of the presentation and Q&A, there will be an opportunity for networking in the third floor bar of the Madison Club. We look forward to your attendance.
