The Havre de Grace Colored SchoolMuseum and Cultural Center, Inc. (CSMCC) is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit organization. The goal is “to remember, promote and preserve the rich history and legacy of the Havre de Grace Colored School.”  The Havre de Grace Colored School holds special distinction as being the first public high school for African American children in Harford County, Maryland. The initial portion of the school was built in 1910 and served as an elementary school for African-American children. In 1930, the county expanded the building to accommodate a high school. To maintain this important history, the CSF is now beginning the next phase of preserving and restoring this forgotten piece of Maryland history. The CSF’s goal is to transform this landmark into a state-of-the art museum and cultural center. Once restored, the venue will celebrate the local and regional history of the African-American experience. For more information on the Havre de Grace Colored School or to donate to the restoration and preservation initiative, go to www.hdgcoloredschool.net; email: [email protected]; or call (443) 939-0366.
