A FULL DAY retreat in nature using SOAR’s Writing for Healing transformative tools, yoga, meditation and massages, lunch provided Event Description: You deserve to heal and to let go of what holds you back from reaching your highest potential. In this safe space you will uncover the wounds and emotions that keep you from what you deserve to be Free to STEP INTO YOUR LIGHT AND YOUR LIFE! SOAR’s founder, Kimberly Collins will introduce participants to her poetry & prose writing tools while you enjoy the rustic beauty of nature. You will be guided in this powerful healing writing circle to unlock trauma, emotional blockages and to release limiting beliefs. Yoga teacher Stephanie Legarda will be leading healing yoga to help you transcend and to work through emotions with movement, breath and meditation. Come and Claim your Power and Connect with the Healing energies that emerge from the earth and being a part of community. Choose to live on PURPOSE! This is a gender friendly safe space for all. All are welcome. Wherever you are in your life, whatever needs healing, we are here for you. Every part of YOU is welcomed here. Location and Environmental Details: We will be in a quiet nature setting tucked into the woods at Seneca Creek State Park. Our private pavilion will have parking available and onsite restrooms. The space will feature a large covered pavilion with picnic tables and large natural ground area shaded by trees for yoga and writing circles. We are encouraging guests to connect to the earth and enjoy the health benefits of walking barefoot in nature. The site will be located near nature trails for exploration and a short walk to the lake to sit and relax. There will be space to enjoy solo quiet time for reflection. We strive to make this event as ZERO WASTE, eco friendly as possible. There will be no single use plastic featured, guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to enjoy the water, tea and kombucha provided. We will have compost collection for food scraps and offer eco friendly serving ware for lunch. These are small steps we pledge to help fight the climate crisis we are facing. Tentative Event Schedule: Here’s an overview of our day retreat: - Arriving 9:30 AM - Welcome grounding ceremony, set intention - Meditative Heart Opening Yoga Class - Meditation and Breathwork - 1st Writing Circle: My Come From Place - 11:30 Writing Lunch (Summer lunch provided featuring local seasonal produce) Seated massages 12:30- Break into sharing circles 1:30/45 mini break and massages 2:00- Fire Yoga to step into your POWER, including anger release exercise 3:00 “Living on Purpose” - writing workshop and sharing circle 4:00- Chakra Balancing meditation with yoga nidra 4:30 - “Love Letter to Self” writing workshop and sharing circle 5:30- Closing Fire Ceremony, enjoy take home gift About Your Retreat Guides: Kimberly Collins is the Founder of So Others Ascend Righteously (SOAR) author of two books of poetry, Bessie’s Resurrection (Indolent Books 2018) and Slightly Off Center (1993) as well as a collection of essays Choose You! Wednesday Wisdom to Wake Your Soul (2017). She created SOAR in 1992 to conduct Writing for Healing workshops for youth, domestic violence survivors, men and women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and others in need of claiming their space. An English professor at Howard University, her vision is to offer writing as a tool for healing to promote individual and community advocacy to combat issues that adversely affect our collective village. After using yoga and meditation for her own healing from depression and anxiety she became a certified instructor in 2017 with over 15 years of self practice. Her power is being able to bring healing energy to the practice, helping her students of all ages release anger, stress and sadness to better access a place of joy, self love, peace and power! Her love for mother Earth is represented in her actions and community work. She hosts a weekly live meditation for world peace every Monday night at 9 PM EST (tickets on Eventbrite). She is currently studying to become a Functional Medicine Health Coach to better serve her clients with preventative healthy lifestyles. Yoga is simply the connection of the mind, body and breath. No matter who you are, you can learn to slow the breath and connect to yourself. I teach the importance of nasal breathing and meditation techniques. If you are reading this, take a minute to breathe in through the nose, slow and from the belly, exhale slowly from the nose.
